Switzerland Innovation Park Ticino: 2025 marks the transition from vision to operational reality

2025 is a pivotal year for the Switzerland Innovation Park Ticino. After years of prepara-tion and strategic development, the Park has completed its first year of operation as an autonomous entity, officially joining the national Switzerland Innovation network and em-barking on its growth trajectory thanks to the support of a 10-million Swiss francs cantonal grant allocated for the first four years of activity.

Over the course of the year, the Swiss Drone Competence Center was further consolidated. The Center recorded 309 flights carried out (+20% compared to 2024), 23 members comprising companies and academic institutions (+35%) and a 100% occupancy rate of its premises. At the same time, activities related to BVLOS operations, and the establishment of the Alpine Drone Consortium continued; this initiative involves the cantons of Ticino, Uri and Graubünden with the aim of strengthening Switzerland’s position as an international leader in the drone and autonomous mobility sector.

2025 was also an important year for laying the foundations of the future Life Sciences hub. The new Biomedical Hub laboratories were completed thanks to investments exceeding 4 million CHF, creating a 473 sqm infrastructure dedicated to applied research. The Life Sciences Competence Center now has four active research and development projects and a community of 21 members comprising companies, researchers and institutional partners.

The activities carried out during the year have created the necessary conditions for the Center’s development. At the same time, the Switzerland Innovation Park Ticino is refining its strategic positioning in the life sciences sector, a field characterised by fierce international competition. The aim is to identify the segments in which Ticino can develop distinctive expertise and generate the greatest added value for the region.

The year also confirmed the growing international appeal of Ticino’s innovation ecosystem. The Park welcomed delegations from the United States, China and leading Swiss academic and industrial institutions, helping to strengthen Ticino’s reputation as a prime location for the development of innovative, high-tech projects.

Looking ahead to 2026, the Switzerland Innovation Park Ticino will continue to consolidate its activities in the drone and life sciences sectors and will launch the new Fashion Competence Center, developed in collaboration with the Ticino Moda Association. The Center will support the sustainable transformation of the fashion and textile industry through applied research, technological innovation and collaboration between companies and universities, further strengthening Ticino’s role as a platform for innovation at national and international level.

Confirming the growth momentum already underway, investments of around CHF 6 million have already been planned for the next four years across the Park’s various centers of expertise. These investments will be funded equally by public resources and contributions from companies and private partners, reflecting the confidence the business community has in the project and its potential for development.

2025 was the year in which the Switzerland Innovation Park Ticino transitioned from being a project to becoming an operational reality. Today, the Park has the infrastructure, expertise and concrete projects that help to generate innovation, attract investment and create value for the region.
